The Importance of ASE Certifications

ase importance blog imageHave you ever wondered what it means for a mechanic to be ASE Certified or why it is important to you as a car owner?

ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) is a non-profit organization founded in 1972 that strives to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals.

ASE Certification is important to both the client and the automotive shop because it helps gauge a technicians level of expertise. In addition to the testing required for certification, technicians and service professionals must also have at least two years of industry experience in order to qualify for certification. To ensure that each individual is up-to-date with the current automotive technology, re-certification is required every five years.

The ASE Certification tests are written by a national panel of seasoned automotive industry professionals and are segmented into over 40 sub-specialties. Each of these 40 individual exams is designed to recognize the automotive service technician’s knowledge of job-related skills in areas such as auto maintenance and light repair, collision repair, service consultant, parts specialist, alternate fuels, and engine machinist.

And, as Michael can attest, these exams are not easy. According to the ASE website, only two out of every three test-takers pass on their first attempt.

When you bring your car to Kings Cross Automotive, you can rest assured that we take continuing education very seriously. We believe that incorporating the latest automotive knowledge and technology is the only way to provide superior service and value to our clients.
